Week 6

Hi all! We're starting on Javascript this week. I'm pretty excited about it actually. Javascript adds a lot of programming-style elements to website development. Variables can be used and items can be programmed to add functionality to your website. For one of the other weeks, we had our slideshow project and the code I borrowed for that relied on some javascript. Here's a sample from that: <script> var slideIndex = 0; showSlides(); function showSlides() {     var i;     var slides = document.getElementsByClassName("mySlides");     var dots = document.getElementsByClassName("dot");     for (i = 0; i < slides.length; i++) {        slides[i].style.display = "none";      }     slideIndex++;     if (slideIndex > slides.length) {slideIndex = 1}        for (i = 0; i < dots.length; i++) {         dots[i].className = dots[i].classNa...

Week 5

There it is...a lot of work and I'm glad to have it done. For this week's lab, we worked on building a website with input components. This involved things like buttons, radio buttons, and text fields. This was probably the first lab I've worked on that made me feel like I was building something truly functional and interactive. By the time I was finished, I felt like I was working with a website like the ones I would visit. It's a good feeling. I hope everyone else has had a good experience with their labs, too. Good luck to you all!

Week 4 Forecast

Looking forward, week 4 looks like an action-packed event. Our lab this week is pretty photocentric. We'll be building websites with lots of images and slideshows. I'm hoping it's as easy as it is fun. The course project looks promising. While last week involved erecting our website and building up its framework, this week we decorate it like a Christmas tree. That's very festive and enjoyable in real life so again, I'm hoping it's fun and not incredibly annoying to do here. Best of luck to everyone!

Wk 3 Lab

I added my sitemap from the lab this week. All in all, I didn't have a lot of fun with it. The HTML side of web development makes a lot of sense to me because it resembles code. CSS is more of an alien thing to me though. It's less intuitive to me and part of that is probably lack of interest. Margins and borders aren't exciting but they're important part of web development through CSS. Hopefully I can get my brain around them and have a less miserable time next week.

Cipher Sitemap

Well, look at this beauty! I finished the site map for the course project this week. I'm pretty proud of it. In the grand scheme, my project  is going to center around building a website dedicated to Fire Emblem Cipher. It's a Japanese-only card game that I want to make playable in English. The translations would be downloadable from the downloads section (imagine that) and you could then cut the excel sheet into pieces which you'd put them in card sleeves over the card itself. At that point, you could play the card game in English. There's also a card database which will help identify cards and give reference information. Resources is a sort of miscellaneous page with links at this point. I hope this all comes together well. Thanks to everyone who views this post and commented on my last one. Enjoy the rest of your week!

Officially a blogger

Welp, this is it. I've become a blogger. It's a momentous occasion. I had a blog once before, back when I was a young lad in high school. All the cool kids had myspace blogs back then so I did too. I wrote really depressing poetry which I wouldn't care to ever read again. Angst is gross. This is a real Circle of Life™ moment though because I'm almost 30 and blogging again. I'm thinking the work I do here will be a lot more meaningful and worth looking back on at some future time. I'm on a quest to learn and I'll be posting on the various lessons I take away from classes. I'm doing this as a requirement for my web design class but I've made it my goal to keep my posts interesting. It's a personal rule of mine not to write anything that isn't worth reading. Your time is important to you so I'll honor it as well. Good luck to all of my fellow classmates and thanks for reading my first post. I appreciate it. https://goo.gl/images/HqZCAo
